Del hombre o del ángel, el gran Arquitecto
sabiamente ocultó, y no divulgó
Sus secretos, para que los escudriñaran aquellos que debían
Admirar; o, si se dignaban a intentar
Conjeturar, su estructura de los cielos
Ha dejado a sus disputas, tal vez para provocar
Su risa ante sus extrañas opiniones
en el futuro; cuando lleguen a modelar el cielo
Y calcular las estrellas, cómo manejarán
La poderosa estructura, cómo construir, deconstruir, idear,
Para salvar las apariencias, cómo ceñir la esfera
Con centros y excéntricos garabateados,
Ciclo y epiciclo, orbe dentro de orbe.
